Public Awareness

The purpose of the National Federation of the Blind is to act as a vehicle for collective self-expression by the blind. Since its beginning in 1940, the NFB has been working toward the ultimate goal of helping blind persons achieve self-confidence and self-respect, and the complete integration of the blind into society on a basis of equality. The National Federation of the Blind is doing this by providing public education about blindness, information and referral services, scholarships, literature and publications about blindness.

The National Federation of the Blind of Washington is actively working to educate the world at large about the capabilities of blind people. We have members who are available to speak to community groups, school students and any other group interested in learning about blindness. The NFB of Washington participates in programs such as Meet the Blind Month activities to meet and educate the public. We distribute literature in doctor’s offices, libraries and at schools which explain blindness and blind people.

If you are interested in a presentation, participation in an event or in receiving some of our publications please call the NFB of WA at (425) 823-6380. Email president@nfbw.org.
